"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." [Isaiah 40:31]

In 1907, student leaders from Madras believed that an organization was needed to help bring together Orthodox students within high school and college, while uniting them on a spiritual level.  So “Syrian Student Conference” was organized and on January 1, 1908, this organization held its first annual meeting in Thiruvalla.  In 1960, “Syrian Student Conference” became The
Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement (MGOCSM) under the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church with the motto, “Worship, Study, Service.”

It has been said thatthe quality of an organization can never exceed the quality of the minds that make it up.”  Our MGOCSM takes an active role within church activities, from building fellowship, learning more about the Orthodox faith and taking part in service projects to help the community. Our MGOCSM is comprised of individuals that are over the age of 14.  To help run MGOCSM activities successfully, a committee has been set up to build a more solid foundation within our small church.

The MGOCSM of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church of Westchester, Inc has partaken in various fellowship activities ranging from soup kitchens to clothing drives and even playing in basketball tournaments. Our church has made continuous efforts for growing as a church and as God’s people.  We are always looking for ways in which we can grow spiritually by not only building stronger relationship with God, but also within the community.  As a church, we are proud to say that we have participated in events that have enriched our relationships within our youth as well. Our MGOCSM continues to plan activities that will allow our youth to grow and mature into strong individuals deeply rooted within our Orthodox faith. We hope to have the entire church’s support as we hope to build a stronger community by devoting our time in helping those in need and strengthening our faith.

Service
As it is famously and eloquently stated, it is our duty not to be served, but to serve. Therefore, our MGOCSM and personal lives in general would be incomplete without serving our fellow man. With that said, we are planning to expand upon our past ventures in this area by including more areas of service. In previous years, we have participated in soup kitchens in which we packaged lunches for those less fortunate who would then come and take what they needed from the table(s) they were laid out upon. This year we plan to participate in other service projects, such as hospitals, nursing homes and children's homes, to benefit our fellow man. We hope this to be an enriching and productive year.

Spiritual
"Prayer is a harbor in the storms of life, an anchor for those who are storm-tossed, the treasure of the poor, the security of the rich, the healing of the sick, the preservation of health. Prayer banishes evil things, and preserves the good," says Saint John Chrysostom. Spirituality, primarily attained through prayer, is an essential aspect of an Orthodox person. Furthermore, it allows us to enrich our character and our relationship with God. Within our MGOCSM, spiritual activities constantly remind us of our faith in Jesus Christ and her Church. Thus, we are able to keep the continuous presence of Jesus Christ in our lives. Some of the ways we can turn our eyes to God are through prayers (both personal and communal), mediations, Scripture and the Holy Church. We, as a MGOCSM, attempt to apply these concepts into our lives in many ways, like conducting Bible Studies, spiritual gatherings at church, etc. We plan to have an active spiritual year, in which more of the youth can attend the upcoming Bible Studies, retreats, conferences, etc. We also hope to have more spiritual activities within our church in which the youths can learn more about in these areas: Faith, Tradition, Scripture, Worship, Doctrine, Hymns, Sacraments, Theology, etc.

Social
As it is said in St. Mathew 22:39, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," everyone should love one another as they love themselves. Socially, our MGOCSM has grown in relationships, and social activities greatly encourage one's relationship to another. Social events allow for greater bonds among each member of our MGOCSM. These social activities give opportunities to an individual to explore and have fellowship with each youth of our parish. We hope and plan to organize events outside of church (i.e., bowling, ice-skating, movies, sports and games, lunch/dinner, etc.). Overall, like the other two areas- spiritual and service - the social aspect of our MGOCSM continues to grow strongly.
